Spring
in Zell am See

Easter time in the mountains

enjoyment on all levels

The time around Easter is a very special time in Zell am See. The snow is slowly melting, winter sports fans still go skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Others can hardly wait to finally take a plunge into the clear Lake Zell. In spring, you have extensive opportunities to go outdoors, whether it's sporting activities or a leisurely stroll around the Lake Zell to the old town of Zell am See. In case of bad weather, a visit to the TauernSpa is a great option, where you can relax, swim and have a sauna.

Skiing in spring on the glacier Kitzsteinhorn

On the Kitzsteinhorn glacier you can ski until the end of April, sometimes even the beginning of May. The special thing about winter sports in spring are the warmer temperatures that await you after skiing. Some brave ones already dare to jump into the Lake Zell. The glacier is a 15-minute drive away. In spring, usually only the highest lifts are open for skiing, as the snow quality is best there.

Hiking & Mountaineering in the Austrian Alps

Here in the Alpine region, you can climb wonderful peaks from the beginning of April until the end of October, sometimes the beginning of November. But the Zell am See-Kaprun region also has easier hikes in its repertoire. Whether you prefer the soft hills of our grassy mountains such as the Schmittenhöhe or the Schwalbenwand or prefer to take on challenging mountain tours and via ferratas in the glacier region of Kitzsteinhorn or in the rugged Steinernen Meer - here, every mountain lover will find the right destination.

Exploring the region by bike

Would you like to go around Lake Zell? Or would you rather go up to the Erlberg with a fantastic view of the lake and mountain panorama? Everything is possible directly from the Seehaus Zeppelin! In Zell am See-Kaprun as well as in the entire Pinzgau region you will find suitable trails for trekking bikes, gravel bikes, road bikes and mountain bikes - whether with or without a battery. Above all, we can recommend the cycle path 'Tauernradweg', which you can use to cycle to the Krimml Waterfalls on the one hand and to Lofer or even Salzburg on the other.

Golfing in the midst of a fantastic mountain panorama

Who would have thought it, but you can also play golf in the mountains. The Zell am See Golf Club includes two 18-hole golf courses where all golf club members with a handicap of at least 45 are welcome. And best of all, the courses are only a 10-minute drive away. The golf courses are open from mid-April to early November, depending on the weather.

Game, set and match - tennis all year round

For the tennis lovers among you, there is the Zell am See Tennis Club. Not only does it offer 5 outdoor courts, but also 4 indoor courts. So nothing stands in the way of year-round tennis fun. The tennis club is about 10 minutes away by car and courts can be reserved in advance by phone or online.

Exploring Zell am See

Our district capital with about 10,000 inhabitants is located - as the name suggests - directly at Lake Zell. On the opposite side of the lake from the centre is the district of Thumersbach, where the Seehaus Zeppelin is located. Due to the manageable size of the Lake Zell, it is perfectly suited for a bicycle tour or a walk around the lake (about 11 kilometres). But the town centre of Zell am See also has a lot to offer:

  • Weekly farmers' market with regional specialities (end of March to beginning of November)
  • Many shopping opportunities (from sports equipment and clothing to gifts)
  • Panorama round trip with the MS Schmittenhöhe (beginning of May to beginning of November)
  • Free guided tours of the town (weekly)
  • Zeller Seezauber (mid-May to mid-October)
  • Restaurants for all tastes
