Winter
in Zell am See

Winter paradise

Your break during the cold season

Winter in Zell am See has a lot to offer, from countless outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ski touring, tobogganing, winter hikes to relaxing wellness in the TauernSpa or a walk through Zell am See or Kaprun. Discover the winter world in the Alps at the hideaway Seehaus Zeppelin.

Skiing & snowboarding on the peak of your choice

The Zell am See-Kaprun region has always been inviting guests to ski and snowboard on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and the Schmittenhöhe ski mountain. Meanwhile, the well-known Saalbach-Hinterglemm is also part of the skiing area, which means that there is something to suit every skier's heart. Ski tourers also have a number of options, especially the ski touring mountain Ronachkopf is only a few minutes away from Seehaus Zeppelin. The Zell am See-Kaprun region also offers guided ski tours and freeride workshops.

Cross-country skiing surrounded by alpine mountains

For those who prefer to strap on their skis on the flat, there are several cross-country skiing options. If the snow conditions are good, the nearest cross-country trail is only 3 minutes away by car and offers a wonderful backdrop right across Zell's nature reserve. In the immediate region you will find a total of 107 kilometres of cross-country trails, with classic and skating trails for every style.

Full speed downhill - toboggan fun in the surrounding area

The perfect alternative to skiing is an exciting toboggan run. Only 5 minutes away by car is the 3 km long 'Kohlschnait' toboggan run, which is illuminated until 11 pm. For the leisurely ones, there is even a shuttle and toboggan rental is of course available. There is also a somewhat shorter toboggan run 'Köhlergraben' directly in Zell am See. For all those who want it to be particularly action-packed, we recommend the longest illuminated toboggan run in Europe in Bramberg (14km!).

Enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery while winter hiking

If you prefer to go without skis and snowboards, you will still find plenty of alternative sport opportunities in our region. Especially winter hiking offers possibilities for everyone. A leisurely walk around the Zeller See lake with a fantastic mountain panorama can be started directly from the Seehaus Zeppelin. Also, you can also take the cable car to the top of one of the nearby mountains and enjoy the view from above on a hike. For more action, guided snowshoe hikes are offered by the Zell am See-Kaprun region.

Exploring Zell am See

Our district capital with about 10,000 inhabitants is located - as the name suggests - directly at Lake Zell. On the opposite side of the lake from the centre is the district of Thumersbach, where the Seehaus Zeppelin is located. Due to the manageable size of the Lake Zell, it is perfectly suited for a bicycle tour or a walk around the lake (about 11 kilometres). But the town centre of Zell am See also has a lot to offer:

  • Weekly farmers' market with regional specialities (end of March to beginning of November)
  • Many shopping opportunities (from sports equipment and clothing to gifts)
  • Panorama round trip with the MS Schmittenhöhe (beginning of May to beginning of November)
  • Free guided tours of the town (weekly)
  • Zeller Seezauber (mid-May to mid-October)
  • Restaurants for all tastes

Unwind at the TauernSpa

The TauernSpa in nearby Kaprun invites you to swim, have a sauna and relax. Whether the weather is good or bad, you can stay here all day until late in the evening. In the Spa Water World you can dive into various pools, while in the Spa Sauna World various saunas, steam baths and relaxation zones await you. Only 10 minutes by car from Seehaus Zeppelin.
